Never happened upon 10.29.77 until today. And boy does it shine. Check it out:

Even our LMA "Siskel & Ebert" gave it two tabs up.

Subject: top 10!

Although 1977 was a year of consistant great shows, it's May and October that for me, the Dead were really at their peak. This one and 10/2 stand out in particular. The 1st Set is long and features nice performances from Jerry on Dire Wolf and Roses, plus a well-jammed Let it Grow.
Set 2 just smokes from start to finish. The long Estimated>Eyes jam evolves into an early Space, before launching into another great 77 St. Stephen>NFA pairing. Then Jerry pulls out a rare Black Peter (only 6 in 77) and brings the house down. One to add to your 1977 collection for sure!
Dr. Flashback :-)

Subject: One of the best Let it Grows ever...

Est>Eyes is insane and the Bertha is long and definately a slower and more enjoyable beat. They open setII with this after blasting everyone's pupils out in set I, you can almost see everyone dancing deleriously around in circles with Phil thumping away making eye contact with everyone in the audience - Keith gets a real serious nod on this for the cool vibe laying in Estimated...

Check out the cool slide guitar on the 18 min Black Peter.... Awesome.

Sheer bliss+

Yes this is GrendelsChoice's Choice :]

He turned me on to the show..

IMO it has my favourite might as well, jack straw, let it grow, looks like rain, black peter, and minglewood.

Also the dire wolf, loser, el paso, roses, good lovin', FOTD, estimated>eyes, stephen, NFA, sugar mags, and even the OMSN is wonderful..

All of those songs of course make up the whole show. It's a sleeper, if i've ever heard one

Brothers! Sisters! Wineland!

Haleluuuujah!!!!

I am grinning ear to freakin' ear to see that someone other than yours truly has seen the light and spread the word about the magnificence that is 10/29/77!!!!!

I was afraid I'd get permanently banned or something if I mentioned that show yet another time.

(But just for good measure--can't resist--it does contain my all time favorite versions of: BERTHA, MIGHT AS WELL, JACK STRAW, EYES, ST. STEPHEN, SUGAR MAG, & BLACK PETER, with honorable Top 5 mentions going to: LET IT GROW, NFA, FOTD, ESTIMATED.

Thanks, Wineland, Max, et al, for helping to spread the 10/29/77 gospel!!!!

I absolutely agree, it's the only show, of which I have 3 different copies!

Me, too! I like to gravitate between the 2 SBD copies i found (which sound virtually the same, but still...) and the AUD so I can listen to the crowd reaction when Jerry blazes out of the 3rd solo on EYES!

I've heard someone remark that on one aud version or they either saw it you can hear phil step to the mike and say "this is the greatest day of my life." Am I the only one that has heard that mentioned. Just curious, I don't hear it on my aud. Listening to 10-29-77 it wouldn't surprise me that he would feel that way.

this was a great one. one of my favs. even LLR is decent:} Is there a sbd patched with the aud anywhere that fixes up the many cuts in sugar mags, devil, eyes? The end of sugar magnolia is hysterical with bobby laughing at the long drumroll into SSDD.

This would make a great matrix to patch the holes... if only I had the time to figure that whole thing out. Maybe a future SickBits?!?

How so? Is this Grendel's choice? Never fear, there's enough to go around for everyone.

Hijack away my friend. And how are things with you? On my end the kids are at Nana's for the night and we'll pick them up on the way to the beach (Neskowin) tomorrow. Hope all is well on your end Dire. How's that leg healing? (Might not respond tonight since my SugarMag and I have a chance to go out on the town this evening.)
